Big increases have been imposed for both gas and electricity tariffs by the provider - due to high wholesale energy prices.
E.ON has become the latest large gas and electricity firm to hike its prices.
The provider announced today that its gas bills would be going up by 26 percent and its electricity by 16 percent. This follows similar price moves from EDF and the UK's largest energy provider, British Gas.
In common with the other two firms, E.ON blamed high wholesale energy costs for its decision.
"Duel fuel" customers, who get both their gas and electricity from the provider, will now have to pay an average of £1,226 per year, up from £999. However, the cost increases will not affect those customers currently on price-protected or fixed tariffs. The provider also claimed that it is to increase the support it provides for its low-income customers.
Graham Bartlett, a managing director at E.ON, said: "I'm very aware of the effect that the announcement will have on our customers and I recognise that this is a very tough time for everyone.
"This was not an easy decision to make and we've tried to keep these increases as low as possible while protecting as many of our customers as we can."
E.ON's price rises come into effect from tomorrow.
